Drew Brees brought some relief and excitement to the city of New Orleans last year. For a city flooded with despair and in desperate need of renewal, Super Bowl XLIV was a time for this city and its team to be in the center spotlight.
Now, there's a tract in which Brees shares his testimony, and we see the impact he has made on his team and the love he has for his family. LifeWay bookstores are selling these tracts for a little over a dollar, and offering to send them to local high schools. Brees' journey has been marked by struggles and triumphs. Leading the Saints to win the Super Bowl is by far one of his best accomplishments. I actually saw it on TV. (I watched the end!)
Football is all about struggle and triumph. Rugby definitely seems more grueling. But football has its metaphors. To work as a team, to overcome the opposition together, to keep plowing forward even when the way is blocked. The nice thing is that there's padding, unlike rugby.
Life can be grueling, too. But God plows the way before us. Our part is to follow hard and keep running strong. "And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed." Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV)
Don't let fear stop you in your tracks, or any other hurdles that Satan or the world may throw at us. I hope God's Word acts as your blockers this week, whatever you face. Keep plowing, keep running the race!
